The brainchild of Sujata Banerjee, Hemantika is a one-of-its-kind Kathak dance festival held in the last few days of autumn, or as Rabindranath Tagore called it, the season 'Hemantika'.
Now in its third year, the Festival features an array of British and international artists. It offers a weeklong, immersive experience for Kathak practitioners, students and regular and new audiences, creating an energy and buzz akin to the unique cultural maahol (environment) found in India.
The various strands of the festival include:
-
performance opportunities for young artists
-
education and community workshops
-
high-calibre mentoring and training to inspire the next generation
-
commissioning new ground-breaking work
-
showcasing the very best of Kathak
-
attracting wider audiences
-

Each of these aspects is invaluable to the development of talent within Kathak in the UK and west, as well as the art form itself.
