Choreography mentoring opportunities as part of Hemantika Festival 2018

Updated: Jul 2, 2018

SBDC’s annual Hemantika Kathak Festival will take place in London between 11 to 18 November 2018 with Kathak legend Pandit Birju Maharaj once again leading the Festival.

As part of Hemantika, SBDC is offering two choreography mentoring opportunities. The selected artists will get to work with a leading choreographer like Fasih Ur-Rehman, Chitra Sundaram and Sujata Banerjee to develop their piece. They will be performing the finished piece at the prestigious Hemantika Festival - either at the Lilian Baylis studio (Sadlers Well) or Beck Theatre. Some costs towards music, rehearsal space and costumes can also be covered.

Supported by the Arts Council England, the mentorships are open to emerging Kathak artists looking to develop their choreography skills and teachers looking to develop group choreography skills. The opportunities are suitable for those in their early to mid career.

Solo choreography opportunity: You will be looking to develop a solo piece. You will either already have a piece that you want to build on with the support of a mentor, or have an idea that you want to develop.

Group choreography opportunity: You will be a teacher looking to develop a group piece for students and would like mentoring to grow your choreography skills

How to apply: Please send your CV mentioning your dance training and experience, along with a short write up outlining the idea of your piece and how you would benefit from the opportunity. Email the information to admin@sbdc-kathak.com by 15 July 2018.
